It’s with great sorrow that we share that beloved K-9 Loki died from kidney failure on Nov. 12. He was 6 years old.
Loki began his service with the Spring Hill Police Department four years ago. He played a vital role in dozens of cases during his tenure with his handler, Officer Lance Wipf.
The Belgian Malinois/Shepherd mix dog was trained in detecting drugs, such as heroin, meth, and cocaine. He was also involved in building searches, tracking, and aggression control.
“Loki was strong, tough, and deeply committed to serving the Spring Hill community. He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will endure," Spring Hill Police Chief Jim Sutterby said. "We're profoundly grateful to our partnering agencies that came on such short notice to honor K-9 Loki."
Loki came from the Olathe Police Department after medical scans showed he had an underdeveloped kidney that needed to be removed. To save Loki from being euthanized, the Spring Hill Police Department took him in to replace another K-9 who had recently retired.
Loki’s favorite thing to do when not working was playing ball with Wipf. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Wipf and the entire Spring Hill community.
