Spring Hill Chief of Police Cindy Henson will step down in early January to join Johnson County Sheriff-Elect Byron Roberson’s leadership team as one of two undersheriffs. In this new role, Chief Henson will make history as the first female undersheriff in Johnson County. Though she is leaving SHPD, her commitment to public safety in Spring Hill and the broader community will continue through her work at the Sheriff’s Office.
“She knows this community, understands its needs, and has worked tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents,” says City Administrator Lane Massey. “While we are sad to see her go, we are immensely proud of her achievements and excited for this next chapter in her career.”
Chief Henson joined SHPD in April 2019 after 27 years of service with the Overland Park Police Department. Under her leadership, SHPD navigated the challenges of a rapidly growing city—Spring Hill was recognized as the fastest-growing city in Kansas in 2023. Chief Henson expanded the department’s capabilities to meet the community’s evolving needs while fostering a strong bond between residents and officers.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to have led the Spring Hill Police Department these past 5 ½ years. I have enjoyed partnering with the community to foster positive relationships between the officers and the residents. I am proud of the department’s growth and the officers who serve," says Chief Henson. "I look forward to my next challenge with the Sheriff’s Office and will continue to serve Spring Hill by strengthening the partnership between the two departments.”
The City of Spring Hill will begin accepting applications for its new Chief of Police in mid-December. Captain Adam Khan will serve as Interim Chief of Police beginning in early January until the new Chief is hired and sworn in.
