The City's contract with Waste Management (WM) will now include a second weekly collection day and the distribution of trash and recycling carts to all customers for automated trash collection.
These changes are driven by the rapid growth and expansion of our city and our commitment to providing outstanding services for our community.
Expanded Collection Days: Beginning the first week of October, households north of 207th Street will have trash, recycling, and yard waste pickup on Thursdays, while households south of 207th Street will maintain their collection on Fridays. This adjustment ensures a more evenly distributed workload for our collection crews.
New Trash and Recycling Carts: To align with our automated pickup service, all service accounts will receive new 95-gallon trash carts and 65-gallon recycle carts. These carts are designed to work seamlessly with the automated trucks. Deliveries will begin the first week of October, and we appreciate your patience as WM work to distribute around 6,000 carts to our residents.
No More Cart Rental Fees: Customers will not be charges for the carts. Customers who previously paid a rental fee for the carts will no longer be charged.
Mandatory Cart Usage: As part of the transition to automated pickup, using the new carts is now mandatory. These carts are specifically designed to work with our new trucks, ensuring a smooth and efficient collection process. The 95-gallon trash cart has a weekly limit, so for any excess trash, please use prepaid stickers, which can be purchased at Price Chopper and Spring Hill City Hall. Remember, recycling carts should be used exclusively for recyclables, not trash, yard waste, or hazardous materials.
Collection Time Changes: With the introduction of automated trucks and the expanded service days, collection routes and times may change. To avoid any inconveniences, we kindly request that all items be placed at the curb by 5 a.m. on your designated collection day.
Notify Me Reminders: Our Notify Me reminders are here to help you stay on track. However, they do not automatically adjust to the new collection days. If your pickup day has changed to Thursday, please unsubscribe from Friday's reminders and subscribe to the Thursday collection reminders on Notify Me.
Bulky Item Collection Days: Our monthly bulky item collection days will remain unchanged. In Miami County, it's every 1st Wednesday, and in Johnson County, it's every 4th Wednesday of the month. Be sure to follow Waste Management's guidelines for proper disposal of bulky items.
Yard Waste Collection: Yard waste collection is included in weekly pickup for most weeks of the year. Yard waste will be collected on Thursday or Friday along with trash and recycling.
Getting Your New Carts: While we aim to have the new carts delivered by the first week of October, it might take some time to complete all deliveries due to the high number of carts. However, your new pickup schedule will begin on time, so be ready for your designated collection day.
We believe these changes will enhance your experience with trash services. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this transition. Should you have any questions or require additional information, visit our webpage on trash and recycling services or contact Waste Management.
