[ARCHIVED] K9 Officer a valuable asset to department

It’s K9 Officer Niko’s birthday month!

K9 Officer Niko, a Belgian Malinois, will turn 9 on Nov. 2, his partner Sgt. Lance Wipf said. 

What exactly does our K9 officer do? Niko is trained in narcotics detection, tracking, suspect apprehension, building/area search, evidence and article recovery and handler protection, Wipf explained. 

In 2020 so far, Niko was responsible for 14 arrests and deployed 60 times. He’s been involved in: 

  • 1 Article/Evidence Search
  • 16 Building/Area Searches
  • 8 Tracks for Suspects
  • 35 Narcotic Deployments

Niko has been with the Spring Hill Police Department since March 2013. He was born Nov. 2, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
