The Governing Body held a special work session Feb. 13 to discuss potential goals for the City of Spring Hill.
Jim Hendershot, City Administrator, met with each council member individually to discuss their perspective on goals for the City of Spring Hill.
"I found the discussions informative and enlightening and truly enjoyed our discussions," Hendershot said in his memo to the Governing Body. He met with each Council person as follows:
Councilman Eckert: Dec. 17, 2019
Councilman Graves: Dec. 19, 2019 (Councilman Elect)
Councilman Leaton: Dec. 23, 2019
Councilman Owen: Jan. 15, 2020
Councilwoman Hughes: Jan. 22, 2020
This memo is an overview of goals mentioned during these meetings as follows:
- Develop a two-year budget
- Merger of water system
- Develop organizational depth thru cross training and departmental transfer
- Improve employee accountability
- Move beyond many of past administration principles and beliefs
- Improve resident’s knowledge and understanding of projects
- Focus on quality of life issues, short/long term goals/projects
- Parks and trails
- Implement regulations on food trucks
- Be progressive
- Over notify not under notify
- Council should attend but not participate in commission/board meetings
- Review board appointment process and make sure they have everything they need
- More detailed budget process
- More discussion on agenda items
- Additional work sessions on budgets to include department head presentations, more detailed budget analysis and reduction of spending
- Streaming/broadcasting of council meetings
- Expanded efforts on economic development and job development
- Council access to documents from secured folder/file/site
- Govern to the will of the people
- Improved management of staff
- Street program for improvements and maintenance
- Annual reports from department heads, perhaps more frequent from PD

This list of goals will be the introduction for the discussion of the Governing Body going forward to develop goals and priorities for the next two years. Staff can then establish departmental goals and objectives to work to achieve the goals of the Governing Body.
