The annual city budget process is an opportunity to match a financial plan to the community’s needs. The City of Spring Hill’s 2020 budget, approved unanimously by the City Council at its Aug. 22 meeting, achieves this balance. 

     The 2020 budget earmarks dollars for two new police officer positions, intersection improvements at 199th Street and Ridgeview Road, the broadband initiative, facility improvements to Public Works and the Aquatic Center, infrastructure improvements and more. 

    The 2020 budget also provides continued support for the Spring Hill Chamber of Commerce, United Community Services of Johnson County (UCS), the Spring Hill Parks Advisory Board and the Miami County Conservation District. 

     It also includes support for the Johnson County Utility assistance program, which also serves residents in Miami County, and the maintenance of the Spring Hill Cemetery through the Spring Hill Cemetery Board. 

     The budget process included a financial review of 2018 year-end and first quarter 2019 on April 25; presentations from outside agencies on May 21; a discussion of the entire Capital Improvement Program (CIP) on May 23; and a final budget presentation on July 11. The public hearing was held Aug. 8 where the Governing Body announced a steady mill levy would be attainable. 

     The 2020 to 2024 CIP was also approved Aug. 22, which includes all projects proposed to be completed over the next five years. Project costs are estimates and available funding will drive the actual progress of those projects.
