Mayor Steven Ellis and the Spring Hill Governing Body have established a cooling center at the Spring Hill Civic Center due to an excessive heat warning in place for the Kansas City metro area.
This cooling center will be open 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, July 16 through Friday, July 19 and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday, July 20 at the Civic Center, 401 N. Madison St. Residents are welcome to cool down in the 401 Event Space, located inside the building. Water fountains, restrooms and WiFi are available throughout the building.
When an excessive heat warning is in place, it is crucial to drink plenty of water. If you have to be outside, wear sunscreen and sunglasses and take frequent breaks. Residents are encouraged to check on neighbors who may be elderly or have special needs.
