[ARCHIVED] Staff gears up for annual luau

As the summer days begin to grow shorter, the Spring Hill Aquatic Center is gearing up for its biggest party of the season.
On Aug. 4, the Aquatic Center will transform into a tropical paradise from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for the Sixth Annual Family Luau, a family favorite.
Decorations, games, music and more will make a Kansas summer’s evening feel more like a warm, breezy night on the coast. Staff plans to host hula hoop games and a limbo accompanied with island music by Lazell from St. Paradise Steel Drum band.
The $5 entry also includes a catered meal from BB’s Grill, Price Chopper, K&M BBQ and Sonic and a raffle ticket for giveaways.
As the party begins to wrap up for the night, the Spring Hill Recreation Commission will offer a free showing of Sherlock Gnomes at dark in neighboring Aquatic Center Park. Sherlock Gnomes, an animated sequel to Gnomeo and Juliet, tells the tale of the detective Sherlock Gnomes who investigates a series of missing garden ornaments.
But don’t dry off just yet. On Aug. 12, the Aquatic Center will open noon to 6 p.m. for its final day of operation for the summer. Soak up the sun one last time before school begins and leaves start to change.
