With the Spring Hill Civic Center construction set for completion this summer, we’re in the process of purchasing equipment for the brand-new gymnasium, thanks to a generous grant.
The City of Spring Hill was awarded a $106,000 grant from the First Option Bank Trusteed Foundations: Velma Kelly Foundation and C. Lyman and Ingrid Smith Foundation at the March 22 City Council meeting at the Spring Hill Community Center, 613 S. Race St.
Items to be purchased with this generous grant include stage lighting, adjustable basketball goal systems, moveable and foldable bleachers, volleyball net systems, referee stands, lockers and ball lockers and pickleball equipment.
“This gift will provide wonderful opportunities for the City of Spring Hill’s residents,” Ryan Crowley, parks superintendent, said. “Personal and professional relationships are crucial for the continued development for our City.  The generous donation... will provide a higher quality of living for our community. Dora [Davison, administrative assistant] and I personally thank Blake Heid, Kathy Lovig, Chad Lewis, Sharon Meek and Keri Peterson.”
The gym will be striped for two basketball courts, one volleyball court and one pickleball court, Crowley said. With bleachers removed and new paint, flooring, ceilings, heating and cooling systems and lights added, the space went from gym to gem. It will be open year-round and available for both open gym and rented events, Crowley said.
In addition to the grant, the Civic Center stage will also feature restored curtains and will be ADA-accessible with a wheelchair lift.
