[ARCHIVED] Traffic study presented on 199th Street and Ridgeview Road intersection

199th and Ridgeview

At the City Council meeting last week, a traffic study was presented on the 199th Street and Ridgeview Road intersection. David Church, WSP senior supervising engineer, presented several intersection options to the City Council.

"The intersection is currently a two-way stop controlled intersection," Jim Hendershot, assistant city administrator, said. ". ...Because of active subdivision development and the Spring Hill High School in the immediate vicinity, traffic experiences delays that are seen as unacceptable by the driving public. As a result, drivers tend to make questionable judgments leading to accidents or near crash results."

Church recommended a single-lane roundabout, which has shown to reduce injury crashes by 75 percent and fatality crashes by 90 percent.

If the recommendation is implemented, the next steps in the process would include design, right-of-way acquisition and determining costs for budgeting and scheduling purposes.
