Two suspects are in custody following a short vehicle chase early Tuesday morning.
On May 5 at about 2:12 a.m., officers from the Spring Hill Police Department were conducting business and property checks when they discovered a suspicious vehicle leaving the area of 207th Street and Lone Elm Road. An officer turned around to stop the car and identify the occupants when he observed a female run from a field and get into the vehicle.
The officer conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle in question on southbound U.S. Highway 169 just south of 207th Street. As the officer exited his patrol vehicle to make contact, the suspect fled in the vehicle.
A short pursuit ensued through southern Johnson and northern Miami Counties. During the pursuit, officers from the Gardner police department attempted to stop the vehicle using the Stop Stick tire deflation system. While an officer was attempting to deploy the Stop Sticks, the driver swerved at the officer.
With the assistance of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and the Gardner Police Department, the vehicle was stopped at 186th Street and Gardner Road. Two suspects, a male and a female, were taken into custody at 2:32 a.m. Their names are not being released until they are formally charged by the Johnson County District Attorney’s Office.
None of the officers involved and neither of the suspects were injured during the pursuit. The male driver had outstanding warrants from Kansas and Missouri. The female occupant was not wanted but had a criminal history.
