On April 26, 2015 at approximately 0100 hours, officers from the Spring Hill Police Department were on a routine patrol when they came across a suspicious vehicle with its lights on. Officers found two partially clothed subjects in the rear of the vehicle.
The officers ordered the subjects out of the locked vehicle, and the victim exited the vehicle. The victim told the officers that the suspect refused to let him out of the vehicle. Officers discovered that the victim was a minor and a sexual assault had occurred.
The officers then ordered the male suspect out of the vehicle. The suspect climbed into the driver’s seat and fled the scene. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office pursued the subject before terminating the pursuit in Linn County, Kan.
On April 27 at around 0930 hours, the Overland Park Police Department conducted a welfare check on the suspect at a residence. The suspect was discovered in the basement unresponsive. CPR was performed, and the suspect was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment.
At around 1330 hours, the suspect involved in the sexual assault case was pronounced dead. The cause of death is pending an autopsy.
