Aquatic Center closed for summer due to pandemic

On May 28, the Spring Hill City Council made the difficult decision to close the Spring Hill Aquatic Center for the summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Numerous factors went into this extremely difficult decision, the priority being the safety and well-being of our patrons and teenage and young adult staff.

On Thursday night, City staff presented four scenarios of a potential opening to the City Council. Over the last two months, staff worked with local, state and national governments and organizations on what a potential season could look like at the Aquatic Center. Under current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, each of the presented scenarios restricted patrons to designated swim times, low occupancy loads, the encouraged use of cloth face coverings, social distancing and the prohibited use of amenities such as concessions, lily pads, tubes, diving boards and slides. The season would have also been shortened to allow time to train lifeguards and get the facility ready for use.

With the pool now closed, the City is working with the Spring Hill Recreation Commission and Spring Hill Inspiration for Teens (SHIFT) to develop several events and suggested activities for kids and teens. Details on these events will be forthcoming.

We know the Spring Hill Aquatic Center is a summer destination for many in the area and we would have loved to see you this summer but given the safety guidelines above and the significant financial impact on the City’s budget, the decision was made to not open our facility this year.

All those who purchased swim lessons, season passes or facility rentals will be contacted by staff for a full refund.

If you have questions, please send us a message, call us at (913) 592-3664 or email us at poolmanager@springhillks.gov.

Your safety at our facility will always be our number one priority and we hope to see you in 2021 for another summer at the Spring Hill Aquatic Center.
